Credits & Data Sources
Our maps are built from open data. Some of it requires attribution and some of it does not; it is all listed here either way.
Boundaries
Administrative boundaries come from geoBoundaries (gbOpen), which is derived from OpenStreetMap.
Terrain and imagery
- Elevation for the terrain view comes from AWS Terrain Tiles, derived from SRTM and NED, in the public domain. The hillshading and colouring applied to it are our own work.
- Lakes and rivers are drawn from Natural Earth 10m layers, public domain. Elevation data alone renders water as flat ground, so these are a separate layer.
- The satellite view uses NASA GIBS — Blue Marble Next Generation, public domain.
Everything else
The textures in the interface are generated procedurally rather than sourced, and the projections, rendering, artwork, sound and code are the studio's own.
